After President Carter left office, his legacy started to show. The new two cabinet-level departments have become an incredible asset to future generations, his energy policy has helped bring many changes to the United States, such as curbing oil importation, help bring about new technologies such as CFL lightbulbs, and fund many other developments in the field of energy.
Since leaving office, Carter and his wife have been working to eradicate diseases and advance human rights in many nations around the world. Their hard work was finally recognized in 2002 when the former president was given the Nobel Peace Prize, which made him the first president to receive the honor post-office.
Long before President Carter became President Carter, he held interest in poetry. As an eight-grader, young Carter was given the task of writing poetry and memorizing famous poems. He attributes this school-year as being his biggest influence in poetry.
Many years later, President Carter sought out the help of Miller Williams and James Whitehead to take him under his wing and study poetry more in depth. Shortly after, Jimmy Carter became the first president in the history of the United States to publish a book of poetry. It is titled Always a Reckoning and Other Poems. The book of poems holds a total of 44 poems and was met with mixed reviews.
President Carter's accomplishments didn't begin after his presidency, but his legacy does. His achievements and recognitions in all areas of life is what makes Jimmy Carter one of my favorite presidents and human-beings.
